Here's my only fanfiction.
Episode 1: Enter the "Heroes"
"Man, this bites!" Ryan grumbled. "I get one day off a month, and there's nothing to do!" Ryan was a tenth grade student, incredibly intelligent, but also incredibly alone. Ever since he was a child, Ryan had known that he didn't, and would never fit in. "Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!" Ryan whirled around at the sound of a small boy's scream. Before his eyes, in a darkened alley, stood two girls, whipping and beating on a strangely dressed child. Tears were running freely down his face, and he winced more and more from every hit. He finally fell, weeping, to the ground. "So, kid, you still think that you're better than us, huh!" one of the girls shrieked. As Ryan looked on in horror, she proceeded to kick the young boy full in the face. Ryan could no longer remain silent. "Leave him alone!" he yelled. The girls whirled around, and, glaring at him, said, "Unless you want to look like him, back off!" Ryan faltered for a moment, but then cried, "I'll say this one more time. Step away from the boy." The girls seemed taken aback that someone would stand up to them, but one regained her composure and snarled, "You want him? Fine!" She threw the boy at Ryan, smashing him into the ground. As Ryan shook the stars from his vision, he saw lying open next to him a strange book. It was navy blue, with a mysterious silver trim. He stared at the book, gazing at the strange words written within, and realized with a start that he could read some of the words. Ryan mentally shook himself, realizing that there are times when a strange book should be read, but when you're being attacked by Amazon warrior chicks isn't one of them. 'Man, I wish we could just get out of here!' Ryan desperately thought to himself. He felt the boy stir on top of him, and he could faintly make out that the boy was telling him something. "What is it, kid?" he whispered. "Read it," the boy whispered back. 'Well, what the heck?' Ryan thought desperately. "The First Spell:," he cried. The girls faltered, confused at what their victim was doing. "TAKORA!" Ryan yelled. The child began to glow, and his eyes turned silver. Suddenly, Ryan felt a strange sensation; one of leaving his body. Suddenly, he found himself on a hill outside of town with the boy standing next to him. Ryan stared at him. "What are you?' he whispered. The boy gave a weak smile. "The name's Serin...partner." Then the boy's eyes closed, and he collapsed.

Episode 2: Let's See What We Can Do!
Ryan looked at the still form of the child he had "rescued." He had carried Serin back to his house after he had passed out, and he had yet to awaken. While he watched him, Ryan's thoughts were racing. 'How on earth did that kid, I don’t know, teleport me! It was just like magic! And it happened right after I read that word from that book. As he had so many times during the last few hours, he glanced over at the book, lying innocently enough on the side table. What power can it have to make Serin do that? Ryan stopped his examination of the book as Serin began to stir. He sat up, but immediately lay back down, holding his head and groaning. Ryan rushed to his side. "Take it easy, kid...er...Serin. You haven't fully recovered." Ryan lay him back down. Serin looked at him with thanks and wonder in his eyes. "Thank you, mister!" he said. "Hey, I'm no mister," Ryan laughed. "My name's Ryan. But now, I have some questions for you. What...what are you?" he finally burst out. Serin gazed at him solemnly, then propped himself into a sitting position, leaning on the bed frame for support. "Normally," he began,"I wouldn't tell you. But you...you can read my book, so we're destined to be together!" Ryan held up his hand. "That's a good enough place to start as any," he said. "What is this book?" "It's my book," Serin answered. "You see..." And Serin began to tell Ryan one of the most unbelievable and fantastical stories he had ever heard. Serin spoke of another dimension, one filled with magical creatures known as "mamodo." He said that these mamodo all had magical abilities of one type or another, but that these amazing powers could only be triggered by certain key words in the spellbooks that they all carried. However, only a human, predestined and linked to it could read the spellbook and unlock the mamodo's spells. He went on to say that the mamodo were ruled by a king, and that every thousand years, one hundred chosen mamodo would come to Earth for a battle royale to determine the next king. As Serin finished his tale, Ryan slowly sat on the bed, completely speechless from what he had heard. He didn't doubt Serin for a moment; no one could make up a story like this. "So, let me get this straight. You and I are now partners, because I'm the one who can read your spellbook?" Ryan asked. Serin nodded. "So," he said hesitantly, "will you help me?" Ryan remained silent, gazing at the child who needed him as no one ever had before. He looked into the eyes of the, no his mamodo, and said solemnly, "It would be an honor." Serin's eyes lit up, and he leaped into Ryan's arms. "Thank you, thank you!" he cried joyfully. "I just know that we're going to be best friends!" Ryan's eyes filled with tears as he looked at not only his partner, but his first friend in his entire life. "Yeah. I'll bet we will be."

Episode 3: The Winds Shall Blow
Ryan and Serin were walking down the street, coming home from the movies. Serin was gleefully reliving every moment of the film with the abandon of the youthful. Ryan smiled down at him, thinking how strange it was that someone with so much power could possibly be so much like a human child. "Slow down, Serin, you're going to get lost!" he called out as Serin continued to skip down the side walk. Serin immediately slowed, and returned to Ryan's side. "Hey, Ryan, can we go see it again?!" he asked excitedly. "Maybe tommorrow, Serin. It's past your bedtime already, and I don't want you to turn into a night owl," Ryan laughed. "JIKIR!" a voice shrieked. Suddenly, Ryan and Serin found themselves blown off their feet and smashed into a wall. Ryan shakely returned to his feet, then turned to Serin. "You okay, Serin?" he asked worriedly. "Yeah...fine." He got up, alittle shaky, but then gained control. "What was that?" Ryan wondered, looking around. "That would be me," the strange voice said. A tall boy with long red hair stepped into view. Standing beside him was a very strange child. He had two long spikes of orange hair, and had lines running down his face. "Who are you?!" Ryan asked angrily, "and how did you do that?!" "Why, with a spell, of course," he answered as if he were speaking to a child. "You do know what a spell is, don't you? I'm Eido, and this is Hyde. And you are our next target." "Uh-oh, Ryan. I think this is going to be our first mamodo battle," Serin warned. "You mean that's a mamodo? But he looks like an ordinary kid!" Ryan exclaimed. Eido frowned. "Could a kid do this? JIKIR!" he yelled. The kid, Hyde, waved his arms and the wind blasted them again, blowing them off their feet. "Okay, so they can't do that," Ryan said. Eido laughed. "These guys can't even put up a decent fight! I'll bet they don't even have their first spell yet!" he crowed. Then he got derious again. "Let's finish this, Hyde. I've got a date tonight! JIKIR!" he cried. Ryan tensed up, and quickly grabbed his book. "TAKORA!" he yelled, as he and Serin vanished to reappear behind the strange pair. As Ryan reappeared, he noticed something strange happening to his spellbook. It was beginning to glow, and as the light subsided he saw that he could read more of the book. 'A second spell!' he thought excitedly. 'Okay, let's try it!' "KAEN ZERES!" he yelled aloud. Serin's hands began to glow, and he began to move them. As he did so, other things around them began to move. Trash cans, shovels, even a stop sign uprooted themselves. They gathered around Serin, whirling around, until Serin flung his hands forward, and the items leaped towards Hyde and Eido. "Ah! Hey! Oww! Watch it!" Eido cried. "Hyde! Blow it...OWW!...away!! JIKIR!" he cried. Hyde began to generate one last blast of air. "Quick, Serin! TAKORA!" Ryan cried. They teleported in front of Eido. "Now, Serin!" Ryan yelled. "KAEN ZERES!" Serin's hands began to glow again, and Eido's book suddenly leaped out of his hands. Serin spread his arms apart, then suddenly brought them together again. The book expanded, contracted, and then exploded, knocking all of them backwards to the wall. As the smoke cleared, they saw a strange sight. Hyde was shimmering, and slowly disappearing. "Serin, what's happening?" Ryan wondered. "It's his book," Serin answered. "They're the only things that keep us tethered to this world. When they are destroyed, the mamodo returns to the mamodo world." As they watched, the last traces of Hyde disappeared. His last words were, "Eido, you idiot!" Eido raised his arms to the sky and cried, "How will I get to my date now?!" Ryan looked at Serin, and Serin looked back at him. "Come on, Serin," Ryan said tiredly, "take us home. TAKORA!" Ryan and Serin disappeared, and reappeared in Ryan's bedroom. "Well, Ryan, now you've been in your first battle. Do you still want to help me?" Serin asked sadly. Ryan looked at him and smiled. "I wouldn't miss it for the world, Serin. You and I are friends, and I'll never let you down." Serin jumped into Ryan's arms, then the both of them collapsed onto Ryan's bed. Unbeknownst to the happy pair, unfriendly eyes watched them. "They're stronger than they look. I didn't think they'd beat Hyde," a voice said. "True, but this is just the beginning," a second voice answered. "Come on. We've got work to do," it continued, as the two mysterious figures disappeared.

Episode 4: As Hearts Become Cold
Serin was walking down the sidewalk idly, hands inside his cloak and humming a song he had heard earlier. “Man, I hate it when Ryan’s at school. I never get to have any fun without him,” he said glumly. He glanced up at the nearby clock-tower, and saw that it was just about time to go meet Ryan at the gate. He waited everyday for Ryan; most people thought he was just Ryan’s adoring younger brother. As he was walking past an alley, he saw a flash of movement in the shadows. As he stopped to look closer, he saw a very strange sight, one that mystified even the worldly mamodo. It was a strange creature, with only one eye, no mouth, or any lower body, for that matter. It hovered gently on the three jets that sprouted from its base, and was looking at him with a stoic expression. Serin, always curious, and not as cautious as he could have been, walked right up to this bizarre creature and cheerily waved, saying “Hi!” The strange robotic individual merely looked at him, then slowly turned and floated deeper into the alley. Now afire with curiosity, Serin followed it into the alley. Just as he was about to disappear out of sight, Ryan walked past, looking for him. He called out, but Serin didn’t seem to be able to hear him. He followed Serin at a jog, wondering what his friend was so interested in. As he turned the corner, he saw something that turned his blood cold. Meanwhile, oblivious to his horror-struck partner standing behind him, he walked up to the creature and saw standing behind it a young boy holding a sea green spell book with a navy blue inlay. He stared at in surprise, noting that except for its color, it was identical to both his and Hyde’s, the mamodo child he had defeated a few days ago. He looked at the book, then at what must have been a mamodo. “So, you’re a mamodo! Why didn’t you tell me?” Serin asked. “I didn’t want him to,” said the boy. “My name’s A, and this is my mamodo. His name is Nephthys.” Serin looked at him, saying, “So, why didn’t you want him to tell me what he was?” Serin asked curiously. “I thought your curiosity would be enough to draw you to me,” A answered mysteriously. This was enough for Ryan, who grabbed his book, ripped it open and yelled, “KAEN ZERES!” The spell unlocked in the battle with Hyde began to do its work, and Serin’s hands began to glow with a bright, silver light. A rock wrested itself from the ground and rocketed towards Nephthys. “Woah!” A yelled in surprise. “Sheiquake!” he said. Suddenly, the earth began to tremble and finally lost control of the spell. The glow faded and the rock thudded to a landing. “What the heck was that for?!” A yelled heatedly. “I won’t let you hurt Serin!” Ryan yelled. “What are you talking about?!” A yelled back. Ryan seemed a little surprised. “Aren’t you, you know…trying to burn Serin’s book?” he asked, confused. “Now, of course not!” A scoffed. “Me and Nephthys aren’t trying to win, we’re just enjoying each other’s company!” Serin walked over to Ryan’s side, and looked up at him. “Don’t worry,” he assured him, “we can trust them. I can tell.” “This is all very cute, but if you don’t mind, I think we’ll cut this cloying rendezvous short,” a strange voice drawled. They all looked up at the sound of that mocking voice, and saw a strange pair on the rooftops. One was a tall, well dressed and successful looking man holding a spell book. Beside him stood a small boy with spiky blue hair, ripped jeans and smudges on his face. “Who are you supposed to be?” Ryan called up. “Well, I suppose introductions are in order,” he answered. “I’m Hosokawa, and this is Reycom. And you guys are nothing but one more check on our list to becoming the most powerful creatures in both this world and the mamodo world.” “Don’t bother talking to them, Hosokawa,” Reycom said. “They aren’t worthy.” Hosokawa nodded, and then smiled a cruel little smile. “You know what? You’re right, Reycom. Let’s end this! GIKOR!” he yelled. Reycom’s mouth opened wide, and huge shards of ice spewed out heading straight for the two pairs below. Both of the human partners moved to protect their mamodo. “TAKORA!” “RECUPLACATE!” Serin and Ryan vanished to reappear up on the rooftops across from Hosokawa, while Nephthys opened a strange portal, which then spewed out ice in far greater amounts. Both mamodo then tensed for action, and Hosokawa calmly said, “Gi Shield!” A large shield of ice appeared, blocking the returning shards. “Okay, Serin, looks like we have no choice! KAEN ZERES!” Serin began hurling objects towards Reycom, while Nephthys did likewise with his Eygrowth spell. Hosokawa never lost his cool, blocking each in turn with Gi Shield. “Alright, Reycom, I think we’ve toyed with them enough, wouldn’t you say?” Hosokawa said. Reycom nodded. “Okay, then! RAGIKOR FANG!” Hosokawa yelled. Reycom began to glow, then his mouth opened wide, spewing out a dragon of pure ice. “Quick, Nephthys, stop him!” A cried. “EYBLASER!” A beam shot from Nephthys, taking the form of a wolf. For a few tense minutes, wolf and dragon struggled with each other, until finally, the wolf dissipated, and the dragon surged forward, slamming into Nephthys’ book, engulfing it in flames of blue. “No!” Serin and A screamed in unison. Ryan thought fast, yelling, “TAKORA!” Serin and Ryan reappeared on the ground by A. Ryan yelled at the book, foolishly it seemed, “Give me something! Anything! Make this stop!” Astonishingly, the book began to glow as it had in the fight with Hyde. As the glow faded, another spell was revealed. Ryan cried out in relief, “DAROS!” Serin’s eyes glowed navy as he bent his mind towards A’s book. Miraculously, the burning ceased, though the flames were still there. Serin looked up at Ryan, sweat standing out on his forehead. “I’ve stopped the flames,” he panted, “but I can’t extinguish them!” Ryan looked at A. “Serin’s got to keep his concentration on the book! It’s up to you to defeat Reycom!” he cried. A looked at Ryan, then at Nephthys. His gaze grew determined, and then reached out and touched his burning book. “RAFLARE!” he cried. A boulder burst from the ground and headed up towards Reycom. Hosokawa laughed cruelly. “Is this the best you can do?! GIKOR!” An ice shard flew from Reycom’s mouth, shattering the rock. Suddenly, the shards of rock exploded, knocking Hosokawa back. Reycom, however, stood his ground, but looked on in horror at his book, which now lay in cinders. As he faded, he cast his eyes at the ground and wept, until he could no longer be seen nor heard. With the disappearance of Reycom, his spell failed as well, and Nephthys’ book ceased to burn. Serin relaxed, his eyes returning to normal, as he grinned and hi-fived Ryan gleefully. “We did it!” he cried. A picked up his book, then turned to the pair and said, “I don’t think we’ll ever be able to thank you enough. You saved our lives. Just know this: whenever you need us, don’t hesitate to call.” With that, they walked away, vanishing into the shadows. Ryan turned to Serin. “Let’s get home, buddy. Even after all this, I still have homework to do!” Serin laughed, and as Ryan triggered the spell that would take us home, another pair disappeared as well form their vantage point from which they had observed the entire battle. As they left, however, a voice was heard to say, “So. Now they have truly started to come into their power. So be it. This will be an interesting fight.”

Episode 5: The Voice in the Shadows, part 1
Serin and Ryan were at a grocery store doing their shopping. That is to say, Serin was shopping. Ryan was doing all he could to restrain his temper. “How ‘bout this? Or this? Oooh, and we’ve just gotta buy this!” Serin squealed as he ran to and fro through the aisles, grabbing some if the most bizarre food items Ryan had ever seen. From pickled pigs’ feet to Gouda feta loaf, Seri seemed to have a craving for everything! “Serin, that’s enough!” Ryan finally burst out, as Serin tried to put marinated tripe into the cart. “But Ry…” Serin whined. “No, now put all this stuff back before…” Ryan was interrupted in his scolding by a sudden shouting. “I TOLD YOU THAT WE’RE NOT GETTING THOSE!” a voice bellowed. A second voice, even louder than the first, yelled back, “AND I TOLD YOU THAT IF YOU DON’T, I’M LEAVING!” Ryan rolled his eyes in exasperation. It seemed you couldn’t go anywhere these days without encountering one of these brooding couples. Serin took one look at Ryan’s frowning face and ran into the next aisle, apparently to give the yellers a piece of Ryan’s mind. Unfortunately, he never got the chance. He took one look at the so called “couple,” and then turned tail and ran right back to Ryan. “Ry, it’s a mamodo! That yelling is coming from a mamodo team. Ryan dove his hand into his backpack and took out his spellbook, then followed Serin to the unhappy pair. Before his eyes he saw a very strange sight. He saw a boy in front of him with a ripped T-shirt and a scowl on his face, glaring at a mamodo with an expression that was even angrier. The mamodo glanced up as Ryan and Serin came into view. “Hey, Griever,” the mamodo growled. “Looks like we’ve found a puny mamodo for us to squash.” The boy named Griever looked up in amazement then smiled a cruel little smile. “Tell ya what, Nipimono. You win this fight, and I’ll buy those cookies for you. Lose, and I’ll burn your book myself!” Griever said. Nipimono grimaced. “I wish you’s stop threatening to do that,” he grumbled. “What was that?!” Griever said menacingly. “Uh,” Nipimono stuttered, “I said…say the first spell already!” “Fine, then! CRUIS!” he yelled. A wave of light rippled outwards from Nipimono, headed straight for them. Ryan didn’t even flinch. “DAROS!” Serin’s eyes glowed navy as the spell from the battle with Reycom took effect. The attack slammed into the shield, but Serin was too strong for it. Griever and Nipimono seemed a little shaken by the ease with which they had repelled the attack. “Uh…okay, then, uh… ZEI CRUIS!” After a moment’s hesitation, Griever continued the attack. A beam of light shot from Nipimono’s palms, spiraling towards Serin. Ryan again reacted calmly. “DAROS!” Serin again blocked the attack with ease. The intense battle training he had undergone over the last weeks was really paying off. Ryan was amazed at the power his friend now wielded. Griever was clearly becoming desperate now. Then a sly look crossed his face. “Hey, Nipimono,” he whispered. “Yeah?” “Notice how they only defend against our spells? I’ll bet they don’t even have any attack spells!” Nipimono looked at him with disdain. “You’ve only just now realized that? You’re dumber than you look!” Griever straightened up, highly offended, and then looked at Ryan. “You know what, kid? We give up. Just take us down.” Ryan looked at Serin, very confused. Serin returned the bewildered look, just as confused as Ryan. “Be careful, Ry. They must be planning something.” Griever saw their confusion, mistook it for fear, and nodded. “I knew it! You don’t even have any spells to attack us! Ha ha HA!” he crowed, dancing a bit of a jig on the floor of the supermarket. Then, just as Nipimono was about to join in in their foolish dance, a voice as cold as a glacier spoke. “LISERA TYRO.” A beam of solid darkness entertwined with blue flame slammed into Nipimono’s book, incinerating it completely. Nipimono suddenly vanished, and Griever cringed away from the still smoking spot. He stepped away hesitantly, then turned tail and ran, crying as he went. Ryan and Serin wirled around to see a figure robed in shadows standing atop one of the shelves. Ryan cried out, “Who are you?” Meanwhile, Serin’s eyes had become flat, and an uncharacteristic look of pure hatred crossed his face. “I didn’t know you were here…brother.”
To be continued…
